At over $100 per drink, Sevva will never be my ‘local’ bar, but it’s up there as one of my favourite Hong Kong bars with a view.
Its outlook from the 25th
floor may be lowly by Hong Kong’s standards, but viewing among the towering
buildings of Central, rather than over them, gives its own unique perspective.
As you look from the bar’s outside terrace down onto Statue Square and the
Legislative Council building, HSBC HQ rises to your right, while Victoria
Harbour spreads to Kowloon on your left.
It’s rare among Hong Kong’s viewpoints in
that you feel part of the view. From
here, you can appreciate both the size and multitude of Hong Kong’s impressive
buildings.
Compare it to Hong Kong’s
highest bar – Ozone, perched atop the 123 story Ritz-Carlton – and you’ll
see what I mean. From Ozone, the cityscape is stunning, but its scale is lost in
the distance between you and it.
Sevva's website may be full of
cringe-inducing statements…
The
dress code is “Easy-Glam.”
“The
fresh green vertical garden…” aka an immense WALL OF GRASS “…energizes the spirit
of the lounge.”
“The
concept and philosophy of SEVVA is the interpretation of a refined upbringing
and years of great exposure to the many travels and memories of Bonnae Gokson,
Founder & mastermind of this establishment.”
… but the drinks are as good as you'd expect for the price and the view more than makes up for the odd pretentious-cringe.
