WTF // Sai Kung Shark Attack!

Junk Boat season may be well underway, but the waters of Sai Kung were quieter than normal last weekend after shark attack rumours spread like warm pee in a wet suit.

MACAU // All Hail The Grand Lisboa

Last weekend I took my first ever trip to Macau, the ex-Portuguese SAR of China and gambling capital of the East.

While I didn't enter a single casino on my trip, they still managed to photobomb my snaps of the beautiful old town. Chief culprit was the Grand Lisboa, an architectural monstrosity that looms over Macau like an incoming 90's spaceship on Armageddon Day.

WTF // Eyemask

One month to go until I take the Trans Siberian train home. Here's my favourite item bought on my pre-journey shopping trip: A PANDA EYEMASK (125HKD from G.O.D). You can get your own here. You're welcome.

Is Hong Kong the World's Most Photogenic City?

Like you and I, Hong Kong is not a classic beauty.

Paris has its ordered Boulevards, New York its striking landmarks; Hong Kong is a jumble of newness and everyday life, with buildings jostling for attention in the haphazard skyline. Yet, it’s this hotchpotch of lifestyles that makes it one of the most photogenic cities on the planet.

WTF // Hong Kong Students DO Have A Sense Of Humour

I made this poster for a workshop on Job Interviews. It was kind of asking for it, wasn't it?! Still, pretty hilarious.

HK PROBLEMS // Polluted City

Via @i4harold

Leaving my flat on an early morning Pret run yesterday, I could not help but notice the smog that had draped itself over the city while I slept. For the first time since moving here, the change in air quality overnight was jarring.

BABY IN A BAG: Student art shown in main foyer

Hong Kong's Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) is a multi-disciplinary arts village in Shek Kip Mei. Converted from a former factory estate, the building hosts regular exhibitions of local artists' work. On Saturday, I took my camera to check it out...

HK Highlights #14 // Shanghai Street

Heritage, creativity and humour all blend on my favourite Hong Kong street.

Stretching from Mong Kok to Jordan, Shanghai Street showcases a vibrant cross section of Kowloon that remains both authentic and unique. Here, you can’t enjoy the best of Hong Kong without also being exposed to some of its worst; interspersed between the unique shops and historical buildings are the whore houses, brazenly advertising the trade with nationalities listed by price.

Here’s 6 things I love about Shanghai Street…

HK PROBLEMS // Cramped Apartments

Photos of Hong Kong’s “cramped” apartments appeared in media outlets around the world last week. Issued by Publicis, on behalf of Society for Community Organization, they were enough to make even me quit whining about my apartment size and count my blessings, but the charity’s message soon got lost in the medium.

WTF // Student Feedback

This is what someone wrote after a "Bucket List" chat group I ran at college. Kind of... poignant.

POEM // 'I Miss', By Steph Carter

I miss
being able to call, any hour
not counting the minutes that I'm paying for

Q&A // Steph Carter, Poet

Steph Carter is another fresh Hong Kong resident just like me - only she has a talent. Here, the young writer (and author of today's poem) answers questions about her work, inspiration and Hong Kong's poetry scene.
