WTF // Sai Kung Shark Attack!

Junk Boat season may be well underway, but the waters of Sai Kung were quieter than normal last weekend after shark attack rumours spread like warm pee in a wet suit.

The deaths of Kwong Kong-hing (61) and Yan Sai-wah (42) following shark bites were separated by a mere ten days, prompting fear and speculation among expats:

The only problem is that the deaths took place 20 years ago; the South China Morning Post article people were posting was from 1993.

Weirdly, the date on top of SCMP's articles refers to when they were last modified and, as this particular article made no other reference to time, readers assumed the piece was current.

SCMP had to add an editor's note at the top of the page to quell the panic...

...but by then the rumour had already taken hold and even the locals were discussing it.
